Celebrating Women’s Month with a theme “Kababaihang May Kapansanan: Katuwang sa Pag-angat sa Bagong Pilipinas”
Celebrating Women’s Month with a theme “Kababaihang May Kapansanan: Katuwang sa Pag-angat sa Bagong Pilipinas” is a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and resilience of women worldwide. A journey of women’s strengths, resilience and progress defeating the gender inequality led to value women empowerment in nation building. To continue these remarkable contributions, the local government of Valenzuela conducted a Leadership Training on Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) to capacitate or empower their volunteers under the “PWD Homecare” program who are mostly women and women with disabilities together with barangay federations officers. Their noble act is to provide supports to persons with disabilities by visiting their residences to assess and listen to their needs and status for intervention purposes. These 54 participants attended by 22 women and 18 women with disabilities fully understand that the cause of social exclusion is the presence of physical, information and communication, institutional and attitudinal barriers. These volunteers realized their crucial role as GEDSI advocates particularly for women and girls with disabilities.
