On December 3 and 4, 2020, the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) lead to undertake the commitment in promoting advocacy and the rights of persons with disabilities through its programs and services and empower them to participate fully in decisions for their lives especially during this COVID-19 Pandemic.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is celebrated worldwide on December 3 of every year pursuant to United Nations General Assembly Resolution 47/3 (1992) to remind the world to support the full and equal participation of persons with disabilities and to act for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and development.
This year’s theme dubbed as “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World”. It aims to promote understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. The annual theme focuses on how society can strive for inclusivity as a means of empowering persons with disability.
The Webinars will be conducted to present the topics on “Forum on Sexual and Reproductive Health for Persons with Disabilities”, “Webinar on Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities”, “Webinar on Smart TV Parenting dubbed as – Katuwang sa Mapanuring Panunuod”, “Sensitivity Awareness Seminar” and “Understanding the Universal Design in the Philippine Context”.
These Webinars are intended to all persons with disabilities, media personnel, doctors, therapist, parents, social workers, teachers, local service provides and duty bearers, among others. The Webinars will provide relevant information and knowledge on how persons with disabilities can fully empower their lives and everyday activities within their families, schools, and in their communities.
“This year’s IDPD objective seeks to increase awareness to political, social, welfare education, economic and cultural life. It also aims to understand and accept persons with disabilities and celebrate their achievements and contributions.”, Rojas said. Engr. Emerito L.
