Executive Director Emerito L. Rojas of the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) takes the lead in holding a “ Webinar on Disability Equality Training (DET) for Persons with Disabilities” to promote equal rights of persons with disabilities in the country brought about the COVID-19 pandemic, on October 7, 2020 in virtual platform via NCDA FB page.
Director Rojas says that “DET is a practical tool that will provide education on disability which primarily aims to change the attitude of the society in treating persons with disabilities with just and equal and inclusive towards their full participation”.
Expected participants from Region 7, include representatives of Persons with Disabilities Affairs Offices (PDAOs) of local government units, Local Social Welfare Officers, members of the local legislative bodies (Sanggunians), local officials, advocates of persons with disabilities and civil society organizations, among others.
They will be capacitated on the disability equality perspective focusing on the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities by the invited speakers from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), NORFIL Foundation, Inc. and the Leonard Cheshire Disability Philippines Foundation (LCDPF), Inc. whose topics include the “Protocols on Anti-Discrimination in the Attainment of Social Justice for Persons with Disabilities” “Measures to Ensure the Rights of Children with Disabilities” and “Perspective of Social Model of Disability”, respectively.
In addition, Regional Director Rebecca Gaemala of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will grace the occasion and give the keynote message during the DET Webinar.
In the same event, three (3) Webinars on DET will be undertaken in Regions 8 and 10 on November 12 and 24 of this year.
