To concretely mark this year’s Women’s Month, the Philippine Blind Union (PBU) gathered over 50 women with disabilities at the Quezon City Hall last March 8, 2013 for “Women on the Move: A Consultation of Women with Visual Impairment”.
After learning enabling laws and programs for women with disabilities, participants in groups showed creative ways to handle discrimination/challenges at home, work and public places. Below left, PBU Chairman Emiritus Capt. Oscar Taleon cheers Braille watch raffle winners.
With backing from Resources of the Blind, National Council on Disability Affairs, the day-long session updated the group on the latest trends, laws, policies and programs as inputs to a year-long action plan, inspired by “NOTHING ABOUT US, WITHOUT US”, a famous Disabled People’s International tagline.
On the whole, the overall goal of exploring how PBU could best address relevant issues, through its Committee on Women, was thoroughly met, and more.
