The Nation Commemorates National Rare Disease Week

By virtue of Proclamation No. 1989, declaring the 4th Week of February of every year as the “National Rare Disease Week” issued on February 8, 2010, the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) commemorates the 2nd National Rare Disease Week on February 21-28, 2011 with the International theme “Rare but Equal”.

As the focal agency of the government on disability matters, the NCDA, in partnership with Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc, enjoins all stakeholders in promoting the rights of children with special needs.

This week-long celebration enhances national information campaign that will instill public awareness about the nature and medical management of rare diseases and to generate full support for the special needs of children affected by rare disease from both public and private sectors .

The theme, “RARE but EQUAL”, focuses on a stronger awareness campaign for the general public involving all relevant stakeholders such as government agencies, health-care institutions, local government units, non-government organizations, the media and other private and public institutions.
