Undersecretary Rosie Lovely T. Romulo, Chairperson of the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) and Elder Leopoldo Fonbuena, Country Director of the Latter-Day Saints Charities, recently led in the distribution of wheelchairs held at the NCDA office in Quezon City.
In her remarks, Mrs. Romulo expressed her appreciation to the Latter-Day Saints Charities for their generosity and unrelenting efforts to reach out to more Filipinos with disabilities by providing them wheelchairs to enable them to have access to greater mobility and participation in the mainstream of society.
The beneficiaries/recipients who are mostly children and adults with disabilities came all the way from the cities of Angeles, Pampanga, Pasig and Muntinlupa.
As of this date, Latter-Day Saints Charities Philippines has donated a total number of 2,000 wheelchairs which were turned-over in simple ceremonies by NCDA to the beneficiaries of mostly children with disabilities of the National Capital Region and outskirt provinces of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The guests who arrived to witness the turnover include Dr. Marilyn Hammond, Associate Interdisciplinary Training Division Director, Center for Persons with Disabilities; Mr. Jeff Sheen, MS, Training and Development Specialist and Mr. Sachin Pavitran, MS, Project Coordinator and Assistant Technology Specialist of the Center for Persons with Disabilities, all of Utah State University. Assistant Secretary Nora C. Salazar and Mr. Mateo A. Lee, Jr., Officer-in-Charge of NCDA, were also present to grace the occasion of the NCDA.
